Configuring a Dell Touchscreen Monitor
Dell Touchscreens are commonly used with Shopfront, the configuration varies slightly depending on the model of touchscreen you are using. This article shows how to configure the Dell P2424HT.
Connecting the Monitor
To configure the monitor correctly, ensure that three cables are connected to the back of the device: a DisplayPort (DP) or HDMI cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable, and the power cable.
DisplayPort (DP) or HDMI cable
- Connect one end of the DP or HDMI cable to the corresponding port on the back of the monitor.
- Connect the other end to the matching DP or HDMI port on your computer
USB-C to USB-A cable
This connection enables touchscreen functionality.
- Plug the USB-C end into the monitor
- Plug the USB-A end into a USB-A port on your computer
Power Cable
- Connect the power cable to the back of the monitor
- Plug the other end into a power outlet
All three cables must be connected for the monitor and touchscreen to function properly.
Enabling the Touch Keyboard
If you don't have a physical keyboard connected to your computer, you can enable the on-screen touch keyboard to appear automatically when you select a text field. Follow the steps below:
- Open the Settings on your computer
- Select Time & Language
- Select Typing
- Select Touch keyboard
- Next to the Setting Show the touch keyboard Select When no keyboard attached
Troubleshooting the Touch Sensor Not Working
If the touch sensor on the monitor is not responding, try the steps below to diagnose and resolve the issue.
Restart the Monitor
Turn the monitor off and on by pressing the power button located on the bottom right corner of the back of the monitor.
Check the USB Connection
The touch functionality relies on a USB-A-to-USB-C cable.
- Ensure the cable is securely connected to both the monitor and the computer
- Disconnect and reconnect the cable to confirm a proper connection
- When reconnecting to the computer, try a different USB port to rule out issues with a specific port
Verify the Touch Sensor in Windows
Open Device Manager (select the Windows icon on the taskbar, then search for Device Manager) and confirm that HID-compliant touch screen appears under Human Interface Devices.
- If this is missing, the computer is not detecting the USB connection
- This may indicate a faulty USB cable or a problem with the computer’s USB port
If the USB connection for the touch sensor is detected, SiW HID Touch Controller will appear under Control Panel > Devices.
