If your wireless barcode scanner is not scanning properly it might be due to a low battery or it might require troubleshooting.
If the scanner loses power after scanning a barcode and is more than two years old then the battery may need replacing which we can supply.
If the scanner beeps 3 times after an unsuccessful scan then please complete the steps below to troubleshoot your device.
Troubleshooting
The steps below regard the models LS4278 or LI4278.
Note; Between each step please try scanning a product barcode to see if the issue has been resolved.
- Reboot the PC
- Scan the pairing barcode on the cradle
- Disconnect the cable at the bottom of the cradle. The cable has an end like a telephone cable with a plastic clip. Please plug it back in.
- Disconnect the cradle cable from the PC end and plug it into a different USB port
- While the LI4278 is in the cradle:
- Pull and hold the LI4278 trigger for approximately 20-30 seconds
- A red led light should start blinking on the LI4278 signalling that it started re-initialising/resetting
- While resetting the scanner should emit power-up beeps
- After the LI4278 resets release the trigger and remove it from the cradle
- Scan the pairing barcode on the cradle
- Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the barcode scanner temporarily and then plug it back in. You will need a Philips head screwdriver to disconnect the battery.
- Scan the Set Factory Defaults barcode (below) followed by the Add an Enter Key barcodes in sequence.
- Update the scanner's firmware by downloading the 123 Scan Utility
Set Factory Defaults:
Add a Carriage Return (Enter Key):
(Carriage Return/Line Feed)
To add an Enter key after scanned data, please scan all three bar codes in numerical order.
1. SCAN OPTIONS
2. <DATA><SUFFIX 1>
3. ENTER
If you scan a barcode and it remains in the Shopfront search bar without being added to the sale, simply scan the barcodes provided above to rectify the issue.
Example 1: Carriage Return (Enter Key) Not Configured
In this example, the Carriage Return (Enter Key) has not been configured, resulting in the barcode remaining in the search bar instead of adding the product to the sales screen.
Example 2: Carriage Return (Enter Key) Configured
In the example below, we have added the Carriage Return (Enter Key), which means the product will automatically be added to the sell screen.
Scan large carton or case barcodes:
If you can't scan large cartons or case barcodes please scan this barcode to activate.
Enable Interleaved 2 of 5 (01h):
If you are unable to scan any of the barcodes above try printing the LI4278 Quick Start Guide.
Cradle has no light but temporarily presents a light when the PC is rebooted
If you reboot the PC and the green light appears on the scanner cradle before Windows finishes booting up and then turns off again, try scanning the HID USB host-type barcode below while the computer is booting up and the green light is still appearing on the cradle.
LED Indicators
The following charts detail the Scanner and Cradle LED definitions.
Scanner
LED Indicator | Reason |
Green - Slow Continuous Flash |
Non-critical battery temperature fault. Battery is above or below normal operating temperature. If this occurs, do not use the barcode scanner and move the barcode scanner to a location within normal operating temperature. The scanner can remain in the cradle while the battery warms or cools to normal operating temperature. |
Red & Green - Continuous Flash |
Critical battery temperature fault. Battery is above or below normal operating temperature. If this occurs, do not use the barcode scanner and move the barcode scanner to a location within normal operating temperature. The scanner can remain in the cradle while the battery warms or cools to normal operating temperature. |
Green - Fast Continuous Flash | Barcode scanner is charging |
Green - Solid | Barcode scanner is fully charged |
Red - Solid | Battery may require pre-charge |
Cradle
LED Indicator | Reason |
Green - Blinking | Cradle is externally powered and connected to a USB host interface which has suspended the cradle. The cradle is no longer connected to the barcode scanner but it will charge the barcode scanner. Scan the pairing barcode to pair the scanner and cradle. |
Red - Blinking | Transmission error |
Green Solid | Cradle is powered |
Green Slow Blinking |
Non-critical battery temperature fault |
Green Slow Blinking | Charging in cradle with USB (bus powered) |
Green Fast Blinking | The scanner is charging |
Amber Blinking | Critical battery temperature fault |
Green Solid | The scanner is fully charged |
Red Solid | Battery requires precharge |
