Setting up Additional Information
Additional Information is custom fields that you can add to a product. You can edit the data within these additional fields within the product edit screen. This additional product information can be used on shelf tickets, filtering products by a sale key on the sell screen or within the products index page. External integrations like an e-commerce store can also access the additional fields.
To add Additional Information to products, you must first create and configure the fields. We've created a simple interface that allows you to customise the Additional Information fields. To access the Additional Information page, follow the steps below.
- Open the Menu
- Select Setup
- Select Additional Information
Adding a Field
To add a new field, select the + New Field icon at the top of the screen.
Type in the Name and optionally rename the Safe Name as one will automatically be suggested. The Safe Name can only contain lowercase letters, numbers and the underscore (_) character.
Field Type
Once you've created an Additional Information field, the field and its corresponding value will appear on the product edit page of each product. Below is a description of each Field Type:
Field Type | Description |
Text | Allows any text to be entered in the product's value field |
Number | Allows any numerical value to be entered in the product's value field |
Select List | Enables selection from pre-loaded options, allowing one list item per product |
Multi-Select List | Enables selection from pre-loaded options, allowing one or more list items per product |
Multi-Line Text | Allows the value to be entered across multiple lines |
Checkbox | Allows the value to be toggled on or off for a product |
Date | Allows a date to be set for a product |
Additional Settings
Each field includes options to set a default value and specify whether the field is required.
Default Value
This is the value that will appear by default for each product. For example, if a Checkbox field type has the Default Value activated, that value will be applied to all existing and new products.
Required
If Required is enabled, a value must be selected for the field before the product can be saved.
Removing a Field
To remove a field from the Additional Information page, simply find the field you wish to remove and select Delete.
{note}This will remove the field from all products and data will be lost.{/note}
Additional Considerations
Suppose you're using the Additional Information to export the tickets to DesignPro. In that case, a character limit is imposed on the safe name of eight (8) characters (however, this can vary by system). Any safe name longer than this automatically gets truncated, which can lead to conflicting names. This is a limit in the format DesignPro uses and not a limit imposed by Shopfront.
